Why can't I shut up...?

Hi. I've become that guy. You know me. I'm the guy who sees every conversation as an opportunity to mention his blog. Oh yeah, I'm that guy. Then, not only will I say, "Food? I just blogged about food the other day," but I'll actually follow up with, "Hey, you should check it out. The address is blahblahblah.blogger.com." I include the link in my Facebook status updates and forward it in emails to my friends with instructions to 'follow' me. When the iPhone dings, I run to see if I've received notification that someone left a comment. I've installed software that monitors activity on the blog and click over to it several times a day. It's a sickness. I'm sick. I need to be stopped.

I suppose I should be reminded that I'm not supposed to write for adulation and attention. I should write because I like to write. If others react to my rantings and pseudo-creative work, that's great but it shouldn't be what drives me. Right? What if no one ever read this? Would it matter? Would I continue to post if I knew no one would ever read it? Yes, damnit! I will not let the audience, or lack there of, dictate my work. I will not be that ego-maniacal. I will not succumb to the demons!

OK. So I know that I will write even if people don't read it. Now for the bigger task. I must take an oath. Here goes.....

to tell friends, family and strangers
about my blog, its topics or its popularity
at every opportunity, appropriate or inappropriate,

  2. ...a few of things...my mom and dad (your aunt and uncle) read parts of your blog yesterday, they LOVE it!... First, my dad remembered when his professors dressed like your profile pic... B, they have been catholic/religious/cool-aid drinkers for their entire life and they never knew Jesus' middle name...they always figured the "H" was silent...Third, They laughed their 70something asses off while reading "from the window to the walls till sweat...." I think they almost wet their depends...D, The sickness in which you speak of in this post is not a sickness... some call it a gift...some call it a blessing... some call it an affliction...some ocd...genetic...bottom line you have to remember the readers of this masterpiece are obsessively and compulsively looking for the next entry into the Gospel of Earl...Feed us!!!!...and 5, I've taken to starting AND ending sentences with...fuckin genius! dot dot dot

  3. You have software installed that can track my every move? Oh, now I'm nervous. What if I come by, say, twice in one day? Will that make me stalker like? Or would the number need to be higher?
    Of course, being the founding member of the "I love Rants, musings & albatross" fan club, I suppose I could get away with coming by as many times as I fancy.
    Just don't forget, your blog is still an embryo, a little baby nuggest in the great big lands of blogs.I do think your site deserves more traffic because I think you're writing is brilliant, so I'll probably be pimping your blog from mine very soon. That should help your shot to stardom since my blog is a bit older then yours.
    If you build it, they will come.

    I have to tell you that I enjoy reading your comments and now look forward to them very much.
    However with my youngheimers that I have I do need the link to get through. so please I beg you leave it for all the world to see or just the 3 of us (your cousin Leonard, the stalker and your sis). Besides I just told Mark and Karen about it so your following may move up.
    It is technically not a sickness it is a great gift you have to make us all laugh and want to have you around because you make the party better!
